East Tennessee half stock long rifle, .38 caliber, unmarked. Walnut stocks, metal frame with iron mounts, octagonal barrel, wooden ram rod. Standard sights. Barrel length – 43". Overall length – 59". Mid 19th century. Provenance: Private Knox County, TN collection. CONDITION: Stock and barrel with old patina. I have only been able to find one rifle that looked similar to it described as a "J.Wilt Plains Rifle". The lock has "Loomis, Dayton Ohio" engraved on it (Not "E. It's a half-stock percussion rifle that was in my step-mom's stepfather's family for many years, and it was just passed along to me by my 91 year old Dad.
